System Requirements

  • iOS 12.0 or later
  • Compatible with iPhone and iPad
  • Optimized for iPad Pro with Apple Pencil support

Installation

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Search for “Dasher”
  3. Tap Get or the download icon
  4. Wait for installation to complete
  5. Launch Dasher from your home screen

Supported Devices

Dasher for iOS works on:

  • iPhone (iOS 12.0 or later recommended)
  • iPad (iOS 12.0 or later recommended)
  • iPad Pro with Apple Pencil support

Input Methods on iOS

Touch (All Devices)

  • Navigate by dragging your finger across the screen
  • Supports multi-touch gestures

First Run

  1. Open Dasher from your home screen
  2. Grant accessibility permissions if prompted
  3. Select your alphabet/language from Settings
  4. Choose your preferred input method
  5. Adjust speed and sensitivity settings

Configuring iOS Switch Control

To use external switches with Dasher:

  1. Go to iOS Settings → Accessibility → Switch Control
  2. Enable Switch Control
  3. Add your switches under Switches
  4. Configure scanning settings
  5. Open Dasher and select “Switch” as input method

VoiceOver Integration

Dasher is designed to work alongside VoiceOver:

  • VoiceOver can read text as you enter it
  • Use rotor gestures for navigation
  • Configure audio feedback in Dasher settings

Troubleshooting

Problem: App crashes on launch

Solution:

  • Ensure iOS 12.0 or later
  • Restart your device
  • Check for iOS updates
  • Reinstall the app from the App Store
  • Check for app updates in the App Store

Problem: Can’t enter special characters

Solution:

  • Some alphabets group special characters separately
  • Navigate through the zooming interface to find them
  • Check that your alphabet file includes needed characters
  • Try a different alphabet variant

Problem: Switch control not working

Solution:

  • Verify iOS Switch Control is enabled
  • Check switch connections in iOS Accessibility settings
  • Ensure Dasher has “Switch” input method selected
  • Test switches in iOS Switch Control first

Tips for iPad Users

  • Split Screen: Use Dasher in split view with other apps
  • Apple Pencil: Adjust sensitivity for your grip
  • Landscape Mode: Dasher works in both orientations
  • Guided Access: Lock iPad to Dasher for dedicated use
